*Listing is for knife only

This vintage Keen Kutter jack knife is a bold mid-century piece, featuring vibrant red and cream swirl celluloid handles and the brand’s iconic arrowhead shield. Fitted with two carbon steel blades and brass liners, this model reflects the kind of functional, affordable American cutlery once found at every hardware store counter.

The main spear blade is tang-stamped with the classic Keen Kutter logo, and “K4” is marked on the reverse — a pattern number associated with contract manufacturing during the 1940s–1950s, most likely by Camillus or Kingston.

Maker: Keen Kutter (contracted through Camillus or Kingston)
Pattern Number: K4
Blades: 2 – Spear point and pen blade (both from same end)
Handle Material: Red and cream swirl celluloid
Shield: Arrowhead (nickel silver)
Bolsters: Nickel silver
Liners: Brass
Closed Length: Approx. 3 1/2"
Country of Origin: USA

Condition Notes:
Both blades show signs of age and use including scratches, tarnish, and sharpening marks. They open and close with solid action. The front handle is visually striking and intact with a small hairline crack, while the reverse side shows some discoloration, and a visible hairline crack running from the front pin toward the bolster. Despite these cosmetic flaws, the structure is solid. Please see all photos for detailed condition.

Historical Note:
Keen Kutter was the house brand of E.C. Simmons and later Shapleigh Hardware, known for durable tools and knives sold through catalogs and general stores across America. By the 1940s, many Keen Kutter knives were manufactured under contract by companies like Camillus and Kingston. The K4 pattern was a common everyday knife — simple, useful, and designed for folks who needed a cutting tool to last.

Collector’s Note:
Keen Kutter knives remain highly collectible for their historical branding, hardware store nostalgia, and classic American styling. This red swirl example, despite signs of honest wear, still shows strong color and carries the distinctive arrowhead shield. A great entry point into traditional knife collecting or a worthy display piece for those who appreciate the grit and story behind old tools.
