This is a vintage single-blade pen knife made by Imperial Knife Company of Providence, Rhode Island. It features a striking "cracked ice" brown celluloid handle with a nickel silver arrowhead shield, steel liners, and bolsters. The tang is marked:
IMPERIAL
PROV. R.I.
USA
This marking dates the knife to roughly the 1950s–1960s, a period when Imperial produced affordable, dependable pocket knives for working Americans. The blade opens smoothly with good snap and retains its original shape. The knife measures approx. 3 1/8" closed.
Condition Notes:
This piece is in good vintage condition with signs of use typical for its age. Some light scratches and peppering on the blade, but no major damage. Handles are intact with no cracks. A nice, usable or collectible piece.
Historical Note:
Imperial Knife Company was founded in 1916 and became one of America’s largest cutlery manufacturers by the mid-20th century. Known for their celluloid handles and practical designs, Imperial knives were often carried by tradesmen, farmers, and servicemen during the 1940s through the 1970s. This knife is a classic example of the accessible American workmanship of that era.
