This charming and compact advertising pen knife was made in Japan by Mitsu, a postwar Japanese cutlery brand known for crafting small promotional and souvenir knives for the U.S. market. This example features a delicate faux mother-of-pearl celluloid handle with bright red text reading:

NETTIE’S FLOWERS
GR. 9600

The knife includes a small pen blade and a fold-out manicure-style nail file or screwdriver tool, all in a sleek and lightweight profile.

Features:

Blades/Tools: 2 (Pen Blade, Nail File/Screwdriver)

Handle: Faux Pearl Celluloid with Red Printed Advertising

Condition Notes:
Good vintage condition. Blade shows age-darkening and minor wear but retains good edge form. Tools open smoothly. Handle covers are intact with light scuffing and no major damage. Red lettering is vivid and readable. A dainty and delightful example of midcentury advertising charm.

History Note:
During the 1950s and 60s, Japanese firms like Mitsu, Tak Fukuta, and Seizo Imai produced large quantities of promotional knives for American businesses. These knives were often given away at florists, hardware stores, or banks—printed with phone numbers, logos, or slogans from an era before area codes and mass advertising.

Collector’s Note:
An excellent addition for collectors of advertising knives, Japanese imports, or midcentury Americana. The petite form, bold red text, and floral origin make it a standout among vintage novelty knives.
