This rugged and finely crafted pocket knife was produced by R.J. Richter of Solingen, Germany—one of the world’s most revered centers for cutlery. With its robust frame and traditional three-blade configuration, this knife embodies the post-war era of working-class reliability paired with European craftsmanship. The richly jigged brown Delrin handles are warm in the hand, paired with polished nickel silver bolsters and a classic fish-shaped shield that hints at its outdoorsman heritage.

It features three carbon steel blades designed for utility and versatility:

Clip Point

Spey

Pen Blade

The main clip blade proudly bears a long, etched mark reading “TRAPPER’S KNIFE”, while the tang is clearly stamped:

Condition Notes:
This knife is in excellent vintage condition. All three blades retain their full profiles, with a gentle, even patina and minimal signs of sharpening. The “Trapper’s Knife” etch is still visible and sharp. Walk and talk is solid, with healthy snap and secure half-stops. Handle scales are tight with one small repair, and with minor scuffs from age. Nickel silver bolsters show expected wear but remain bright and clean.

History Note:
R.J. Richter was one of many Solingen-based manufacturers exporting fine pocket knives to the American market during the mid-20th century. This model—clearly designed with the American trapper or sportsman in mind—reflects the blend of function, durability, and aesthetic appeal that defined the post-war German export boom. These knives were often sold in sporting goods stores, hardware shops, and general stores throughout the U.S., serving as faithful companions in tackle boxes and work jackets for generations.

Collector’s Note:
With its bold “Trapper’s Knife” blade etch, durable three-blade layout, and clean German lines, this R.J. Richter folder is a handsome and hard-to-find example of transatlantic cutlery history. Ideal for collectors of German knives, traditional trappers, or mid-century outdoor gear, this one delivers both utility and character in equal measure.
