This vintage folding knife is more than just a tool—it’s a versatile relic from postwar Europe, built for both form and function. Made by Wilh. Welback of Solingen, Germany, this multi-blade folding knife was produced during a time when German craftsmanship was regaining its footing and redefining its legacy after the war. With its robust saw blade, spear-point blade, and corkscrew, it was designed to meet the needs of hunters, campers, and travelers alike—whether you were clearing a path through dense brush, slicing bread on a hillside, or popping open a bottle under the stars.

The handle is fitted with classic stag jigged scales, bolstered in nickel silver, giving the knife a comfortable grip and a traditional outdoorsman’s aesthetic. The character of the knife reflects honest use: patina on the blades, wear marks on the bolsters, and a corkscrew with stories to tell. Yet all tools remain tight and functional, with solid snap and smooth pivoting—built to last, and clearly it has.

History Note:
Solingen, Germany—long regarded as the "City of Blades"—has been a world leader in knife and sword manufacturing since the Middle Ages. By the 1950s, the Solingen cutlery industry was thriving again, exporting knives to markets across Europe and North America. Wilh. Welback was among the many smaller, high-quality cutlers that helped rebuild Germany’s reputation for precision knife work. This style of knife would have appealed to a postwar generation seeking rugged practicality and Old World charm in equal measure.

Condition Note:
This knife remains solid and functional, with tight pins and no cracks in the handle. Both the spear blade and saw blade open and close smoothly with decent snap. The corkscrew deploys cleanly. Blades exhibit age-related patina, surface wear, and mild pitting, but retain full shape and integrity. The jigged handles are in excellent condition for their age, with a warm aged hue and tight fit. A fully usable and collectible piece of German cutlery history.

Collector’s Note:
Vintage European multi-tools like this are increasingly hard to find in working condition—especially from lesser-known makers like Wilh. Welback, whose output was respected but limited. With its Solingen pedigree, traditional layout, and functional design, this knife is a standout addition to any collection focused on mid-century utilitarian knives, European scout-style folders, or Solingen craftsmanship. It’s also a great conversation piece for the camp kit or display shelf.
