This vintage Case XX Stockman pocket knife hails from the 1940–64 era, one of the most admired periods in Case cutlery history. Featuring durable “Rough Black” synthetic jigged handles—nicknamed “Gum Fuddy” by collectors—this knife was built to withstand decades of hard use. Its three-blade configuration includes a clip point, a sheepsfoot, and a pen blade, making it a versatile daily companion as well as a cherished collectible.
The tang is stamped CASE XX, confirming its pre-1965 manufacture. At 3 7/8" closed, this Stockman balances pocketable size with practical utility. The handles remain strong and intact, while the nickel silver bolsters show light scuffs from age.

Condition
This knife remains in good collectible condition with honest use wear from its long life. Blades show surface scratches and light pitting but retain full profiles with no heavy sharpening loss. The leaf springs have scattered age speckling. Function is solid overall: the clip point shows some side-to-side play with good forward snap and softer back snap; the pen blade has very minor play with good snap both ways; the sheepsfoot opens softly but closes with strong snap. This knife ships wrapped in acid-free archival tissue to help preserve both the blade and handle during transit and storage.
Historical Note
Case introduced their rugged Rough Black handles during the WWII era as a practical, long-wearing alternative to natural materials. These “Gum Fuddy” knives quickly became trusted companions for soldiers, farmers, and tradesmen alike. Today, Rough Black Case knives are prized both for their durability and their place in American cutlery history.
