Condition

This knife is in excellent vintage condition. Blades are clean and shiny with only light signs of age. Handles are solid with no cracks or chips. Good snap on both blades. Springs are strong. Nickel bolsters show very light carry marks typical for age. This knife ships wrapped in acid-free archival tissue to help preserve both the blade and handle during transit and storage.

Historical Note

The Muskrat pattern has been a favorite among fur trappers since the early 20th century, designed for precise skinning tasks using interchangeable clip blades. Case’s “Hawbaker’s Special” name pays tribute to S. Stanley Hawbaker, an influential outdoorsman and trapper whose books and trapping guides became foundational in American trapping culture.
