Circa 1920s–1930s A.W. Wadsworth & Son Germany Mini Scout Knife – Pre-WWII Solingen Import

$65.00

Shipping to United States: $7.95

This charming miniature scout knife is a finely made early German import, produced by A.W. Wadsworth & Son and manufactured in Solingen, Germany. Measuring just 1 3/8 inches closed, it represents the smaller end of traditional scout and utility knives that were once popular as youth, souvenir, or pocket companions.

Despite its compact size, the knife retains excellent mechanical character, with tight blades and strong snap both opening and closing. Its tortoise-pattern handle scales and classic bail lend it a distinctly early 20th-century aesthetic, echoing a period when German cutlery dominated the export market for finely crafted small knives.

Historical Note

A.W. Wadsworth & Son was an American importer that sourced much of its cutlery from Solingen, Germany — a city internationally renowned for blade making. Small scout and utility knives like this were commonly produced in the early decades of the 20th century and sold through hardware stores, outfitters, and mail-order catalogs, offering practical tools in a compact, affordable form.

Collector’s Note

Miniature scout knives are increasingly difficult to find intact, especially examples retaining strong snap and clean markings. This piece makes a compelling addition to a scout knife collection, German export grouping, or display focused on early compact pocket tools.
