This is a finely detailed Chicago commemorative miniature pocket knife, produced during the golden age of American souvenir knives. Measuring just 2 1/8 inches closed, it features ornate cast metal handles with raised figural artwork on one side and bold “Souvenir of Chicago” imagery on the reverse.
The blade opens with good snap and displays honest age patina, along with a small chip at the cutting edge, consistent with a century-old novelty knife that has survived intact. These miniature souvenirs were popular keepsakes for travelers visiting major American cities at the turn of the 20th century and were often carried as watch-fob or pocket charms.

Historical Note
D. Peres was among the many Solingen manufacturers supplying blades to American importers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, while Magnetic Cutlery Co. of Philadelphia handled distribution in the U.S. These collaborations fueled a booming souvenir market, especially for major cities like Chicago, whose World’s Fair legacy and rapid industrial growth made it a popular destination.
Miniature souvenir knives like this were never meant to be hard-use tools — they were symbols of travel, modernity, and craftsmanship, often kept as personal mementos rather than utilitarian knives.
Collector’s Note
Surviving examples with clear dual tang stamps, crisp relief artwork, and intact mechanics are increasingly difficult to find. This piece fits beautifully into collections focused on city souvenirs, World’s Fair–era Americana, Solingen export knives, or miniature pocket knives.
